Happy Feet with Poppy Barley

Happy Feet with Poppy Barley

I first found Poppy Barley on Instagram after going down a rabbit hole of links and tags to find a pair of boots I fell for.

Turns out, the booties that caught my eye were Poppy Barley’s 2.5 Ankle Boot in toffee. And now they’re on my feet! Oh, how I love you, internet.

The construction is so high-quality, the colour is lovely, and I love the cut and heel height. Perfectly proportioned and flexible enough to be worn with a dress or jeans. But more than pretty, what makes these boots so awesome is what you can’t see: how comfortable they are. These boots are right on par with my fave pair of sneaks when it comes to support and comfort (and yes, I’m aware they have a heel, and yes, I still mean it).

Good shoes, more than any other clothing article, are totally worth investing in. I’d rather save up for a great, supportive pair that I can wear for years to come than buy a new pair every year that aren’t well made. And Poppy Barley’s collection of  shoesies are exactly the former. Tall boots, flats, chelsea boots, you name it, they come in oodles of colours, sizes and fits (standard and wide), and for those who may need it, they even offer custom fitting. Oh, and don’t forget their cute selection of accessories and bags.

I always love giving some love to Canadian brands, and the cherry on top!? Poppy Barley is having a Toronto pop-up April 6-8th at Kit and Ace on Bloor Street! They’re here for a good time, not a long time, so book an appointment or walk in of you’re passing by and check ’em out!

There’s tons of fun photos below, but please bear in mind that these boots are made of authentic, genuine leather, so tramping in the snow and rain is not recommended — but when you’re Canadian and happen to get hit with a bad snowstorm the week of your scheduled photoshoot, what’s a lass to do 😉 So do give a gander at their leather care guide for tips on keeping them lasting and healthy.

My Glasses Collection (+ a Spectacular Spectacle Giveaway!)

My Glasses Collection (+ a Spectacular Spectacle Giveaway!)

I own 8 pairs of eye glasses—I know it’s ridiculous, but I never claimed not to be—5 of which are from Clearly (AKA Coastal if you’re in the states).

I like to switch it up depending on my mood:. I have a favorite pair for movie-watching, a pair perfect for driving (which live in my glovebox and I’ve coined my “car glasses”), and I have certain pairs I like to wear depending on my outfit or how I’m feeling. So sue me!

So in celebration of four-eyes and spectacle-lovers everywhere, I thought I’d take you through my most recent few pairs and do a giveaway of a free pair of exclusive designer specs to one lucky lady or lad (open to Canadian entrants only)! To enter, simply comment on this post sharing the name(s) of your favorite pair(s). Or just write “2+2=4 eyes.” Seriously, I’ll officially count that as an entry. (EDIT: CONTEST NOW CLOSED)

My Glasses Collection (+ a Spectacular Spectacle Giveaway!)

I have a square face (where my jaw is the same width as my forehead), so I’ve always opted for rectangular-shaped glasses thinking the suited me best, but I took a risk on these super-round Joseph Marc 4137 frames and they’ve become my new go-to, everyday pair.

In the write-up online, they specifically mention being a great size and shape for people with wide jaws (AKA me), and they truly are. In real life, the tortoiseshell pattern is much more subdued than what is presented online–they border on being solid deep brown, which I’m actually happier with than if they had a stronger contrasting pattern.

The keyhole cutout at the nose is also cute and gives some vintage vibes, and I like that the lenses dip down low from the arms, rather than sitting up high and covering your brow.

Next up, the Ray-Ban RX7098-48 in Havana Gold. Unfortunately, I nabbed the last pair, but they may come back in stock so keep checking Clearly. They’re a tad Terri Richardson, bordering on aviator, but a little more wearable and approachable. I love the mix of gold and tortoiseshell. They won’t be an everyday pair, but for certain days I’m feelin’ like going a little rogue, I love ’em. So does Piper, apparently. My Glasses Collection (+ a Spectacular Spectacle Giveaway!)My Glasses Collection (+ a Spectacular Spectacle Giveaway!) And last but not least, some sunnies in time for spring! These are the Hardy 905S‘s with grey polarized lenses. I love how they swoop low on the sides and arc up at the bridge of the nose so your brow arches can be on fleek. They’re also really comfortable. I’ve worn them for a three-hour hike, and they didn’t bug my nose or temples like some glasses do for me after a while. Functional for a fuzzy-eyed astigmatism gal like me, and they look cool.

And just for good measure, I took a few shots of my entire Clearly specs eyeglasses collection. From top left to bottom right: Derek Cardigan 7014, Joseph Marc 4137, Ray-Ban RX7098-48 in Havana Gold, Love L746 in Tokyo Tortoise and Kam Dhillon’s Cathi in Crystal. (The cute spotted plate is from Pursuits of Happiness.)

And for anyone curious about my clothing and accessories. The dress is from Hackwith Design House, the camouflage bomber is from Topshop, my bracelet is from Cradle Jewelry, necklace from Aldo, and sandals are from Topshop.

So remember, to win a free pair of exclusive designer specs, comment sharing the name(s) of your favorite pair(s) or just write “2+2=4 eyes.”

Open to Canadians only, with shipping within Canada. (EDIT: CONTEST NOW CLOSED)

Fave Street Style Looks from London and New York Fashion Week 2017

Fave Street Style Looks from London and New York Fashion Week 2017

When I was in NYC recently, I just missed NYFW.

So when I got home, I instead had to live vicariously through the photos I snooped from it online—my specific Google search always including the words “street style.”

Regardless of whether you’re into fashion, it’s hard not to find beauty and inspiration in the candid shots taken as swarms of people arrive from far and wide.

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to choose only 15 of my most coveted looks from New York and London Fashion Week, it would be the following. In a nutshell, I’d call it: layered and loose fitting with surprising pops of colour, bold graphics, and patterns. Oh, and center parts and athleisure are still alive and well. Enjoy (and shop some similar finds in stores peppered in)!

Three Looks, One Pair of *Cool Mom* Jeans

Winter or summer, dressed-up or super low-key.

They may drive our grandmas nuts, but I just can’t get enough of these studded ripped “mom jeans”. They’re both the main event and the accessory, and make for both easy and edgy looks.

See how I styled them three different ways: polished, laid-back/athleisure, and business casual on my YouTube.

For anyone interested in buying them, you can nab them in classic blue (as seen in the video), or treat yourself to a black pair. The black chiffon sweater and pink button-down are both from TopShop (but sold out), the cage heel loafers are from Jeffrey Campbell, the sneaks are Adidas, and the nude block heels are Aldo. Plenty of shoppable options below:

You as into them as I am?!
